Maintain Your Dental Routine at Home
During the six months between your routine dental appointments, we want to make sure you’re taking care of your teeth & gums to the best of your ability. We know how important your smile is to your confidence & overall appearance, which is why we want to help you stay on track in between visits. With these helpful tips from our Cedar Park dentist, you can keep your smile healthy every day.
Brushing Your Teeth
Brush for at least two minutes each time—30 seconds per quadrant of your mouth—to reach all areas effectively. This helps remove plaque & food particles before they turn into bigger problems.
Hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle toward your gums. This helps clean along the gumline where bacteria tend to build up. Use small, circular motions instead of brushing back & forth to avoid damaging enamel & to clean all surfaces more thoroughly.
Brush twice a day, every day—no exceptions.
Flossing Your Teeth
Floss at least once a day, reaching between every tooth, including the back molars. If those are tough to reach, ask our Cedar Park dental team for flossing tools that make it easier.
Follow the natural curve of each tooth with your floss. Avoid snapping it straight up & down, which can damage your gums. If you’re not confident in your technique, check out ADA-recommended videos or ask us at your next visit.
Additional Oral Hygiene Tips
Mouthwash can be useful, but not all types are right for every patient. Some are purely cosmetic, while others are therapeutic. Overuse can weaken enamel. Ask us which mouthwash fits your needs best.
To clean your tongue, add a small amount of toothpaste to your brush & use circular motions. Tongue scrapers are another option—just drag the curved edge gently from back to front. We can help you find a good one if you’re interested.
A balanced diet matters. Crunchy fruits & vegetables like apples, carrots, celery & strawberries are great for both oral & overall health. Add them to your daily routine where you can.
When you’re here for a dental appointment in Cedar Park or Leander, make sure to schedule your next visit before leaving. We’ll send you a reminder closer to the date. Call us at (512) 259-6577 or book online if you have any questions about your daily dental routine.
